Cape Town cops crack down on brothels

A few months ago I posted an article about two Chinese #HumanTrafficking victims in Cape Town who were rescued in a raid. Their traffickers were arrested and than granted bail. (See article from February here)

This past week, law enforcement conducted several more raids, and discovered that the same Human Traffickers who were arrested in February were back in business and exploiting more girls. Human Trafficking is a thriving business of exploitation happening here in Cape Town and we need stronger laws to be passed to begin protecting those who are vulnerable.

Cape Town cops crack down on brothels

Cape Town – The city’s vice squad made several arrests and deported illegal immigrants following raids on brothels in the city.

The squad conducted an integrated operation with the SA Police Service Human Trafficking Task Team on a residence in Marais Street, Goodwood on Wednesday.

The house was being used as a brothel, the city said in a statement on Thursday.

“It was being run by the same two Chinese national women that were previously arrested by the vice squad on charges of human trafficking.

“The person in charge of the brothel, Chengyong Zhang (Li), was arrested for being in possession of tik and also charged for running a brothel.”

Two other Chinese women were inside the residence at the time of the operation. One was deported for being in the country illegally.

The other woman requested assistance from the vice squad to help her get out of the house and she was taken to a place of safety.

Second brothel found

The owner of the brothel, who was out on bail for her previous court case, was arrested.

She appeared at the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Thursday morning to face charges of being in possession of drugs and running a brothel.

“On this occasion her bail application was denied by the magistrate and she was detained.”

On Wednesday afternoon, the vice squad conducted an operation on another residence in Wellington Street, Goodwood, where it was suspected that another brothel was being run.

A Chinese woman was arrested and deported for being in the country without the proper documentation.

“Brothels are high on the vice squad’s priority list. Operations such as these will help curb these illegal activities,” the city said.
